Reflection # 6

In my opinion, I believe these students were correct in their position to defend what they believed was right. I would not have wanted to be one of the Little Rock Nine” because these students were faced with a candid reality of what racism was like during that time, it was a unmoral action of what these students had to agree to disagree with of inequality. I couldn’t have imagined the prejudice of being belittled by these armed guards just because of racial issues; I would have been in disbelief and would have fought for equality just the same. These students’ believed that they deserve an equal education as the others students; therefore, the students opposed by any means necessary to be heard both by the administration and the government. The government could have agreed with changing the law to have integrated schools; however, they choose to punish these students to prove that racial segregation was far from fair and apart of the law at that time. The vulgar language others used to belittle those students was irrepressible; consequently, the consequences of their actions of protest gave the students’ a voice to disagree of separate schools, thus in allowing others to treat them unfairly. Although African Americans were unable to voice their opinions against their choice of attending schools, and the right for a proper education their voices were not in vain of being noticed many years later, yet many of the racists decided to agree with the government; moreover, the government decided to enforce the restriction, instead of trying to solve the issue. The government was aware of the situation, even though their decision involved the Supreme Court, the most evident change was the replacement of the new government to address the issue, and blocked the students from re-protesting was no success, these students eventually got the respect they deserved. In such a case, as the Little Rock Nine were violating the law, but with perfect intentions to cease the discrimination that existed; I applaud them for their actions, protest, and resistance for equality. If these students did not become apart of equality for racism and education position the classroom would be without diversity; these students’ are brave individuals who risked their educations for a purpose.
